The rumours are true… we have gone fine free!
The library’s mission is to ensure equitable access to information for all. Library fines can be a significant expense for some and cause people to stop using the library.
In an effort to increase accessibility and to encourage users to return, the Smiths Falls Public Library Board has voted to waive existing fines for all users up to $50, and to stop charging fines for late material going forward.
If anyone feels they still owe money, they are most welcome to make a donation to the library instead. Fees will continue to be issued for lost or damaged material, non-resident memberships and library services.
