A message from Karen Schecter (CEO, Smiths Falls Public Library):

It is hard to believe that I worked at the Smiths Falls Public Library for nearly 37 years. I am retiring and starting a new chapter in my life.

I came to Smiths Falls to take the position of Children’s Librarian in the mid-eighties.  Moving from the Hamilton Public Library to the Smiths Falls Public Library was a big change and provided me with a challenge that I enjoyed.  I did not know a soul here and was far away from my family in southwestern Ontario but discovered that the community was very welcoming. Jean McCabe, Bea Conley and Thecla Jordan were on staff at the library when I arrived, and gave me a great deal of help. When I became Chief Librarian, I discovered how supportive the community could be.

Thank you to the Library Board, staff, Friends of the Library and library patrons who have made it a pleasure to go to work each day.  I have many special memories.  I will miss you all.

See you around town,

Karen Schecter
