Summer Programming Assistant
Qualifications:
- Has experience working with children loves reading and public libraries
- Enthusiastic, creative, adaptable, reliable, and personable
- possesses good technological skills
- Willing to provide a vulnerable sector criminal record check
Job Summary:
The Smiths Falls Public Library is seeking a Summer Programming Assistant to help with the TD Summer Reading Program. The Summer Programming Assistant will focus on facilitating a wide variety of programs for school-aged children but will also help with many related tasks within the children’s department. The position will commence on June 19 (flexible) and last for approximately 10 weeks.
The position will pay $16.00 per hour for 35 hours per week.

Summer Tutor
Qualifications:
- Experience tutoring English and/or Math preferred
- Experience working with young children
- Ability to assist and relate to children of various ages and skill levels
- Strong oral and written skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
Job Summary:
The Summer Literacy Tutor is responsible for providing individual tutoring in reading for children ages 3 to 10. The tutor will assess, prepare and execute daily lessons that meet the needs of the individual child. The tutor will provide daily oral updates and a final written progress report at the end of each one week session. The position will commence on June 26 and last for 9 weeks.
The position will pay $16.00 per hour for 30 hours per week.
Successful applicants will need to provide a Vulnerable Sector Check.

Volunteering
General Requirements for Volunteers:
- At least 14 years of age (except for the Teen Advisory Board which is for ages 13 to 18)
- Willingness to undergo a vulnerable sector check if necessary for the position
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and to follow all library policies and procedures

Volunteer Positions
Event Assistant
What You’ll Do:
- Assist library staff at major events- the tasks will vary but may include providing directions and assisting with setup and cleanup
What You’ll Bring to the Position:
- A willingness to help out occasionally for several hours at a time
- Flexibility and willingness to learn
- A welcoming demeanour
Shelf Reader
What You’ll Do:
- Make sure that our books are located in their intended locations
What You’ll Bring to the Position:
- A great eye for detail
- Great tolerance for repetitive work
- A commitment to a set schedule of shifts (one shift weekly or biweekly)
Craft Preparer
What You’ll Do:
- Help prepare materials for library crafts
What You’ll Bring to the Position:
- Good coordination (cutting with scissors)
- A willingness to help out when needed
Flyer Deliverer
What You’ll Do:
- Deliver flyers/brochures to houses in Smiths Falls
What You’ll Bring to the Position:
- Ability to walk long distances while carrying flyers/brochures
- Available for several hours several times per year
Teen Advisory Board Member
What You’ll Do:
- Provide valuable insight on teen programs and services
What You’ll Bring to the Position:
- A commitment to attending monthly meetings
- Lots of ideas
- Lived experience as a teen in Smiths Falls or the Township of Montague
