Employment and Volunteering
Interested in working or volunteering at the library? We have revamped our volunteer program. If you previously submitted an application, we ask that you reapply as our application form has changed. You can view all available employment and volunteering opportunities below. We will be holding a volunteer orientation session on Saturday, September 20 and further details will be sent to interested volunteers.
Volunteering
General Requirements for Volunteers:
- At least 14 years of age (except for the Teen Advisory Board which is for ages 13 to 18)
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and to follow all library policies and procedures
- Reliability
- Attendance at a volunteer orientation before commencing work as a volunteer
Volunteer Positions
Special Events Volunteer
What You’ll Do:
- Assist library staff at major events- the tasks will vary but may include providing directions and assisting with setup and cleanup
What You’ll Bring to the Position:
- A willingness to help out occasionally for several hours at a time
- Flexibility and willingness to learn
- A welcoming demeanour
Children’s Department Volunteer
What You’ll Do:
- Sanitize and organize toys and other non-circulating items in the children’s department
What You’ll Bring to the Position:
- The availability to work at least 1 scheduled shift per month (1 to 2 hours in length)
- Attention to detail
- Tolerance for repetitive tasks
- Flexibility and willingness to learn
Puzzles and Crafts Volunteer
What You’ll Do:
- Help prepare materials for library crafts and organize library puzzles
What You’ll Bring to the Position:
- The availability to work at least 1 scheduled shift per month (1 to 2 hours in length)
- Good coordination (they’ll be a lot of cutting with scissors)
- Attention to detail
- Tolerance for repetitive tasks
- Flexibility and willingness to learn
Teen Advisory Board Member
What You’ll Do:
- Provide valuable insight on teen programs and services
What You’ll Bring to the Position:
- A commitment to attending monthly meetings
- Lots of ideas
- Lived experience as a teen in Smiths Falls or the Township of Montague
