The Friends of the Smiths Falls Public Library started in 1994. We are a group of volunteers who have held many successful fundraising events, in addition to actively seeking grants to be used towards fulfilling our mandate.

Annual Book Sale 2026 – Save the Date!
Our Book Sale will be held this year on Saturday, June 13th. On the grounds of the Smiths Falls Public Library, 81 Beckwith Street, North.
Spring Cleaning or decluttering? Please consider donating your used books to help make our Book Sale a success.
You may choose to drop them off anytime at 96 Colonel By Crescent in Smiths Falls, or at the Library on June 12th, the day before the sale, ONLY

Tom Foulkes Memorial Trivia Challenge 2026
We had such fun at the Tom Foulkes Memorial Trivia Challenge that took place Sunday, April 19th at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 95. Thank you to the Smiths Falls Rotary Club for organizing this in support of the Friends of the Smiths Falls Library.
This is our Friends of the Library Trivia Team “Read em and Weep”.
On World Book Day 2026, Thursday, April 23rd, the Friends of the Smiths Falls Library distributed books to students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 5 at Montague, Chimo, Duncan J Schoular and Saint Frances de Sales schools.

What are we up to?
Some of our fundraising activities, and some of the many ways we contribute to the community are as follows:
The Friends of the Library and the Smiths Falls Community Theatre work together to present the best in foreign and independent films as part of “The Film Circuit”, TIFF’s film outreach programme.
The films are shown on Thursdays at 2:00 and 7:00 p.m. at the Station Theatre 53 Victoria Ave. Smiths Falls.
The 2025/26 Season has finished but be sure and watch the Film Night International Facebook Page in late summer or early fall for the film titles and confirmation of the dates for the 2026/27 Season.

Patient Pastime Library
We provide books and activities for the “Tea and Toast” cart operated by the Ladies Auxiliary in both campuses of the Perth and Smiths Falls District Hospital.

The hospice hub Day Program
We are happy to help support the hospice hub Day Program in Smiths Falls.

Duncan J. Schoular Public School Breakfast Program
The Friends of the Library help support this Breakfast Program.
Volunteers prepare and serve food on Tuesdays and Fridays from 8:30 to 10:00 for any student who wishes to participate.

Friends of the Library presentation towards the Teen Lounge
Early in October, 2025, the Friends of the Smiths Falls Public Library presented $2,500 towards the new Teen Lounge that was planned by the Teen Advisory Board (T.A.B). Some funds were used to purchase a Nintendo Switch and games for youth programming. The T.A.B have since painted and decorated the Teen Lounge.
Annual Book Sale
Thank you to all you book lovers who made our Book Sale on Saturday, June 7th, such a success! We raised over $2,600, which will be used to help support the needs of the Smiths Falls Public Library.

In addition to raising funds for the Friends of the Library, the book sale provides books for community bookshelves at the foodbank, the senior’s activity centre and other locations that put them to good use.
How can you help?
The Board for the Friends of the Library meets on the third Tuesday of each month at the Smiths Falls Public Library.
Please contact us at [email protected] if you would like to become a member of the Board, help us financially or volunteer to assist us with any of our fundraising activities.
Note: As a registered Charity, donations of $20 or more are eligible for a receipt for Income Tax purposes.
